Artist Statement

Sketch of "Contained Freedom"
My practice is a combination of creating beautiful, sculptural, and practical metal objects. The techniques I use include forging, fabricating, and casting primarily with steel, copper, and bronze. I have experimented with other craft mediums, but have found metal to be the most captivating. I am fascinated by what the medium can do, and I allow the relationship between material and process to inform my work. I use my art practice to work on consistency, self-regulation, and internal and external validation. I strive for my work to embody beauty and craftsmanship, but also depth and thoughtfulness.
